Sustainability
Our Initiatives
Your Dean College Dining Team is dedicated to sustainability. We know we can all work together to make a positive impact right here at Dean College. In addition to the many initiatives Sodexo takes on as a company, we have implemented the following programs specific to Dean College.
Mass Impact
MASS Impact is Sodexo’s commitment to make a positive economic impact in the state of Massachusetts through the purchase of local products, produce, services and responsibly harvested seasonal seafood. Through Mass Impact, Sodexo is committed to fostering a strong economy in Massachusetts and creating inclusive market opportunities for local producers, aggregators, and fisheries.
Northeast Organic Family Farm
Sodexo is proud to sign on as a Northeast Organic Family Farm partner to support organic dairy farms in the Northeast, and to help secure the future of organic dairy. We’re committed to purchasing organic dairy products from brands that source their milk from our region. Learn about our commitment and the partnership by visiting www.saveorganicfamilyfarms.org.
Reusable Containers
Our reusable container program is designed to reduce packaging waste. Reusable containers can be purchased in the Smith Dining Center. When you bring your container with you, you can bring your meal with you to go with a meal swipe. Next time you visitt, exchange your dirty container for a green key chain (carabiner) or a clean container.
Babylon Micro Farms
Our Babylon Micro-Farm is managed by the dining services management team and serves as a sustainable source of fresh produce right on campus. It grows a variety of lettuces, leafy greens, herb blends, lettuce mixes, and microgreens. These ingredients are harvested and used in campus dining locations to enhance salads, sandwiches, and garnishes with ultra-fresh, hyper-local greens. Currently, students are not involved in the operation, as there has not been expressed interest from the student body.
